The St. Louis Blues have locked up center Connor McMichael for the foreseeable future, inking the forward to a six-year contract worth a total of $40.5 million.

The new deal will carry an average annual value of $6.75 million and mark his first season with the Blues. The 25-year-old joined the organization on June 23 from the Washington Capitals, alongside a draft pick and forward Milton Gastrin, with right winger Jordan Kyrou heading the other way.

McMichael netted 14 goals and 46 points in 78 games with the Capitals last season and has 67 goals and 87 assists for 154 points in 315 career NHL games, all of which previously came with Washington.

Last season marked the final year of his previous two-year contract, worth $4.2 million with an average annual value of $2.1 million, following his entry-level contract signed in 2019.

With the new contract agreed to, McMichael and the Blues also avoid salary arbitration, after he was one of the 15 NHL players who elected to go through the process, which can often be testing for teams and players.

The 25th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, McMichael bounces between the Capitals and the team’s AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, before enjoying a bona fide breakout season in 2024-25, when he scored 26 goals and 57 points in 82 games.

Outside of his NHL numbers, the Ajax, Ontario native suited up for Canada twice at the World Juniors, winning gold in 2020 and silver in 2021 and won the 2024 Calder Cup with Hershey, the team’s 13th title. Before that, he also played three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights.

After missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2025-26, the Blues will look to start on a better note in 2026-27, with their opening game set for Oct. 2 against the Dallas Stars.
