St. Louis Blues sign Hugh McGing to one-year contract

St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the team has signed forward Hugh McGing to a one-year, two-way contract.
According to CapFriendly, the contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000. He will have a minor-league salary of $140,000.

— St. Louis Blues (@StLouisBlues) July 6, 2023The 24-year-old spent the 2022-23 season with the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Springfield Falcons. He registered 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points and 66 penalty minutes in 71 games. He appeared in two AHL playoff games, and he also made his NHL debut with the Blues on April 12 against the Dallas Stars.
McGing was initially selected No. 138 by the Blues in the 2018 NHL Draft. He spent four years with Western Michigan University and was captain of the team during the 2019-20 season. That year, McGing notched a career-high and team-leading 35 points (13 goals, 22 assists) in 35 games; he was named to the NCAA NCHC First All-Star Team, NCAA West All-American Team and NCAA Lowes Senior Class All-American Team.
He made his AHL debut in 2020-21 with the Utica Comets; he had four points in 23 games. He found a regular role in the lineup with the Thunderbirds the following season, posting 34 points in 67 games and adding seven points in 18 AHL playoff games. Overall, McGing has totalled 34 goals and 43 assists for 77 points in 161 AHL games.
