St. Louis Blues sign Tyler Pitlick to professional tryout

The St. Louis Blues have invited forward Tyler Pitlick to their training camp on a professional tryout, the club announced Thursday.

Pitlick, 30, split the 2021–22 season between the Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens, scoring one goal and five points in 39 games.

Selected by the Seattle Kraken from the Arizona Coyotes in the 2021 Expansion Draft, Pitlick didn’t last long in the Pacific Northwest. The Kraken almost immediately flipped the 6’2″ right winger to the Flames in exchange for a 2022 fourth-round draft selection.

Pitlick started the 2021–22 season with the Flames but struggled to produce and stay healthy. He managed just two assists and 19 shots on goal in 25 games with the Flames before being included in the Tyler Toffoli deal with Montreal in February.

Injured at the time of the trade, Pitlick didn’t make his Canadiens debut until March 24. He finally scored his first goal of the season in his final game, tallying the Canadiens’ 10th goal of their 10–2 blowout win over the Florida Panthers on April 29.

Before his difficult year with the Flames and Canadiens, Pitlick was a solid bottom-six checking forward with the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, and Arizona Coyotes. In 325 career NHL regular-season games, Pitlick has scored 48 goals and 89 points.

Pitlick will now attempt to crack a Blues forward group that already includes Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan O’Reilly, Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas, Brayden Schenn, Pavel Buchnevich, Brandon Saad, Ivan Barbashev, and Logan Brown.

Additionally, the Blues have already signed contracts with forwards Noel Acciari, Martin Frk, Matthew Highmore, Josh Leivo, and Anthony Angello this summer.
