Stanley Cup Playoffs Day 13: Canes finally beat Bruins, Leafs playoff woes continue, McDavid shows up to advance Oilers

There were three Game 7s on the menu, so who moved on and who didn’t?
Missed anything? Here’s a recap of the night’s action.
Domi scores first two career playoff goals to give Canes the win
The Carolina Hurricanes have had their fair share of problems getting past the Boston Bruins in the playoffs, but they finally conquered their demons in Game 7. Max Domi, who was playing in just the second postseason of his career, scored his first two goals in the playoffs, and got an assist on the other Canes goal in their 3-2 Game 7 victory, and they will move on to play the winner of Game 7 between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Paul scores both goals for Tampa as Leafs lose seventh straight first round series
It will take another round to dethrone the back-to-back Stanley Cup champs, and it will take another year for the Leafs to exorcise their demons. They can hang their hats on the fact that they played a great game, had a great series, and pushed Tampa Bay to the brink, but it will be another long summer for Toronto Maple Leafs fans. For more on the game, Matt Larkin broke it down here.
McDavid and Smith come up big as Oilers move on to the second round
Credit where credit is due, after a disastrous Game 1 for Mike Smith, he came up big for the Edmonton Oilers for the rest of the series, and Game 7 was no exception. He stopped all 29 shots that he faced to get the shutout against the Los Angeles Kings, in a game where the Oilers definitely needed it.
Not to say that the Oilers played bad, they controlled the play quite well in the game, but Jonathan Quick also came to play. The Oilers only got two past him, as he made 39 saves in a losing effort.
Every Game 7 has an unlikely hero, and in this one, it was Cody Ceci, who snuck in to the slot and was set up by Connor McDavid to score the opening goal in the second period.

But McDavid was probably the bigger hero, setting up that goal, and putting in a monster effort to score his own in the third period and make it 2-0, and that would be the game. The Edmonton Oilers move on to the second round, and will face the winner of Game 7 between the Calgary Flames and the Dallas Stars.
