Stars’ Jason Robertson had foot surgery, expected to miss most of training camp

During the team’s media availability on Wednesday, Dallas Stars general manager revealed that forward Jason Robertson will not be skating with the team when training camp gets underway on Thursday.
Nill told reporters that Robertson had surgery on his foot on July 31 to remove a cyst. He has been non-weight-bearing for the past six weeks but has recently started skating on his own. According to Nill, the team is preparing for Robertson to miss the majority of camp.

This is not the first time that Robertson has had to miss training camp. In 2022, amid ongoing contract negotiations, the Arcadia, California native didn’t skate with the team until he signed his four-year contract just days before the first game of the season. Any rust that was expected was worn off, as Robertson scored 46 goals and 63 assists, with his 109 points being the most by a Star since the team moved from Minnesota in 1993.
The 25-year-old’s production dropped off last season, as he scored 29 goals and 51 assists for 80 points. Yet, Robertson was good enough to lead Dallas in assists and points by a wide margin. He also scored 16 points in 19 playoff games, as the Stars made it back to the Western Conference Final, ultimately losing to the Edmonton Oilers.
Robertson has two more years left on his current contract, with an AAV of $7.75 million.
Since joining the Stars full-time for the 2021 season, Robertson has been a force, driving the team’s offense. Outside of his rookie season, he has ended every season averaging a point per game, hitting the 40-goal mark twice. In 292 appearances, Robertson has notched 133 goals and 181 assists for 314 points. He has also scored 38 points in 45 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Robertson was originally selected by the Stars in the second round, 39th overall, of the 2017 NHL Draft.
