Lightning’s Anthony Cirelli leaves Stadium Series with injury

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced that forward Anthony Cirelli left Sunday’s NHL Stadium Series game against the Boston Bruins with an injury and would not return.

The team did not disclose what type of injury Cirelli sustained, but with a few minutes left in the first period, the 28-year-old took a hit from Bruins’ forward Mark Kastelic at center ice, which left Cirelli in discomfort on the bench. He did not play another shift after that.
Cirelli finished the night with two shots, a plus-one rating and 6:25 of ice time.

Going into Sunday’s game, the 2015 third-round pick had 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 48 games, averaging 17:41 of ice time. Now in his ninth NHL season, the Etobicoke, Ont., native has 139 goals and 188 assists for 327 points in 559 career regular-season games.
Cirelli has also played in 108 career playoff games, where he’s recorded 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points. He helped the Lightning win two Stanley Cup championships in 2021 and 2022.
Internationally, Cirelli has represented Canada on several occasions. He earned a silver medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships, as well as a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. He was part of Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off championship roster, and last December, was named to their 2026 men’s Olympic roster.
Heading into Sunday’s game, the Lightning were 34-14-4 with 72 points, first in the Atlantic Division and the fifth-best record in the entire league.
Tampa has two more games before the Olympic break: they will host the Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
