The Colorado Avalanche have acquired forward Andrew Cogliano.

Heading back to the San Jose Sharks will be a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft, according to Bob McKenzie.

Cogliano inked a one-year, $1-million deal with the Sharks last summer. Through 56 games, the 34-year-old has four goals and 15 points.

At this stage in his career, Cogliano is known mostly for his penalty-killing ability. He’s been San Jose’s most used forward on the kill this season and he played an important role doing so for the Dallas Stars when they made a run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.

Cogliano is also a very reliable player, as he owns the seventh-longest consecutive games played streak in NHL history at 830. The streak started in his rookie season with the Edmonton Oilers in 2007-08 and lasted until the 2017-18 season with the Anaheim Ducks when he received a two-game suspension for an illegal check.

The Avs, who currently own the best record in the league at 44-13-5, have now added defenseman Josh Manson and forwards Arturri Lehkonen, Nico Sturm, and Cogliano ahead of the trade deadline.
