The Arizona Coyotes aren’t finished blowing things up.

Over the offseason, there was a fire sale in the desert, as the team moved Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Conor Garland, Christian Dvorak and Darcy Kuemper. Next up, it looks like defenseman Jakob Chychrun could be on the move.

Elliotte Friedman mentioned in his 32 Thoughts column on Wednesday that the Coyotes are gauging interest on the 23-year-old defender.

“Arizona GM Bill Armstrong refused to comment when asked, but it now sounds like the Coyotes are gauging the market on Jakob Chychrun. I’ve heard the ask is massive, but that doesn’t mean opponents are running away. He’s signed for three more years at a very reasonable $4.6 million AAV and is a terrific player. This is one to watch.”

The Coyotes selected Chychrun with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and he broke into the NHL immediately as an 18-year-old. Last season represented a breakout showing for Chychrun, as he scored 18 goals and 41 points over the course of 56 games and finished 10th in Norris Trophy voting.

This season has been much more difficult for Chychrun, which isn’t surprising given his defensive partner, Ekman-Larsson, was moved in the summer. Through 26 games, Chychrun has seven points and a minus-29 rating.

Still, based on last year’s results, Chychrun will surely have a lot of interest around the league. His contract is also very reasonable, as he has a $4.6 million cap hit for three more seasons after this one.
