The Detroit Red Wings kept their 2024 Stanley Cup Playoff hopes alive on Monday, coming back from a 4-1 deficit and beating the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime.

A massive reason for the win was Lucas Raymond, who not only tied the game with 1:17 remaining in the third period, but scored his second of the game in overtime to seal the victory.

Now with 31 goals and 40 assists for 71 points on the season, the 22-year-old Raymond is looking every bit of the talented player the Red Wings expected when they drafted him No. 4 overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. If they end up making the playoffs, Raymond will be a big reason why.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and former NHLer Colby Cohen discuss the Red Wings’ comeback win, how important the forward is for their playoff chances and just how good Raymond could end up being.

Frank Seravalli: Where would the Red Wings be without Lucas Raymond? Two humongous goals from him on Monday against the Canadiens. If they did not get at least one point, they would be eliminated from playoff contention.

Colby Cohen: I remember watching Raymond as a first-year player and he scored 23 goals, thinking he would be big time. In his second year, he took a step back and only scored 17 goals. But this season, they bring in Patrick Kane and put him with Raymond, and now he’s got 31 goals in his third season in the league.

His power play numbers haven’t changed: 18 points in his first year, 19 in his second year and 16 this year. When you see a young player trending upwards at even strength, scoring 31 goals with only six on the power play, you’ve got a budding superstar in Lucas Raymond.
