The Mammoth want to make the playoffs sooner rather than later

The Utah Mammoth entered this season with high expectations, seen by many as an ascendant young team with quality pieces all over the roster.
Factor in the addition of a high-level goalscoring talent in JJ Peterka in a blockbuster trade over the offseason, and the conditions seemed ripe for a breakout in Utah’s second NHL season.
While it’s just been three games, that has not come to fruition so far, as the Mammoth are 1-2-0, having scored just one goal in its two losses at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks. Goaltender Karel Vejmelka has kept the team in those games, but more offense is needed if the Mammoth are going to rise to the level of both their internal and external expectations.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton were joined by former NHL video coach Steve Peters to discuss the team’s disappointing start to the season offensively but overall reason for hope to break through into the postseason.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s kick things off with a little bit of talk about the Utah Mammoth. They were everybody’s sexy playoff pick this year, and you want to talk about offenses that are maybe struggling a little bit, just five goals in three games for the. Despite their offensive struggles, though, it feels like they’ve found something with that young top line.
Steve Peters: This is a team that really is struggling to score. There is some struggle from those top guys, but like you’ve said what they’ve talked about in Utah for a long time is how bright this future is, and with the Cooley, Guenther, Peterka line, man that line is exciting. When they’re on the ice, they are a threat to score. They’ve got four goals, the rest of the forwards in Utah have one. They need to find some secondary scoring if this team is going to be a team that can compete for the playoffs.
