The Montreal Canadiens have acquired Christian Dvorak

It didn’t take long for the Montreal Canadiens to find a replacement for Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
Shortly after announcing that they weren’t going to match the Carolina Hurricanes’ offer sheet for the former No. 3 overall pick, word came out the Habs were trading for @Christian Dvorak.
The Canadiens have acquired Christian Dvorak from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for two draft picks.#GoHabsGo https://t.co/JSqpaOz8qk

Montreal will be sending the Arizona Coyotes a first-round pick in 2022 and a second-round pick in 2024, which is fairly similar to the compensation they’ll receive from Carolina for Kotkaniemi. The first-round pick Arizona gets will be the higher selection between Montreal and Carolina’s first-round picks.
Dvorak was a second-round pick by the Coyotes back in 2014. He broke into the NHL with a 33-point rookie season in 2016-17 and has scored 67 goals and 146 points over the course of 302 career games. He had a career-high in goals and points in 2019-20, with 18 and 38.
He has four more years left on his contract and carries a $4,450,000 annual cap hit. Dvorak joins @Oliver Ekman-Larsson, @Conor Garland, and @Darcy Kuemper has core players the Coyotes have traded away in their fire sale this off-season.
