After a strong showing during the Habs’ run to the Stanley Cup Final last spring, Caufield came into the 2021-22 season as a favorite to win the Calder Trophy for the NHL’s top rookie.

Caufield struggled early on, posting just one assist over his first 10 games of the season. The Habs sent him down to the AHL to regain his confidence, where he would score two goals and five assists over six games.

The Habs are badly in need of some help offensively and the hope is that Caufield can bring them just that. Montreal is 4-12-2 on the season, they rank 26th in the league with 38 goals, and they’ve scored more than two goals in just four of their 18 games this season.
