The Ottawa Senators have extended the contract of General Manager Pierre Dorion

The Ottawa Senators are comfortable letting Pierre Dorion steer the ship.

The organization officially announced on Tuesday that they’ve extended the contract of their General Manager through the 2024-25 season.

Dorion broke into the NHL as a scout, where he served for over a decade with the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers. He then was hired by the Senators in 2007 as the organization’s Director of Amateur Scouting. Soon after that, he was promoted to Director of Player Personnel and then Assistant General Manager under Bryan Murray.

When Murray stepped away from the role in 2016 due to his battle with cancer, Dorion was named General Manager.

In Dorion’s first year in the role, the Sens went on a shocking playoff run, coming within one win of reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2017. After that, the team fell flat and Dorion was tasked with selling off the team’s top players, such as @Mark Stone and @Erik Karlsson.

Over the past few years, Dorion has built a solid core of young players, with @Brady Tkachuk, @Tim Stutzle, and @Drake Batherson, among others, getting drafted under his watch.
