The Rangers currently have 11 players with retired jersey numbers (Eddie Giacomin, Brian Leetch, Harry Howell, Rod Gilbert, Andy Bathgate, Adam Graves, Vic Hadfield, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, Mike Richter, and Wayne Gretzky), so Lundqvist will be the 12th.
Lundqvist was drafted by New York in the seventh round of the 2000 draft. After spending the first half of the decade playing in Sweden, Lundqvist made his debut for the Rangers in 2005-06, posting a .922 save percentage over 53 games.
He would be a mainstay between the pipes for New York over the next 14 years, playing in 887 games, recording 459 wins, and posting a .918 save percentage. Lundqvist holds over 50 team records, including games played by a goaltender, wins, shutouts, save percentage, playoff games, playoff wins, playoff shutouts, and playoff save percentage.
Lundqvist’s 459 wins rank sixth all-time, behind only Ed Belfour, Roberto Luongo, Marc-Andre Fleury, Patrick Roy, and Martin Brodeur.
