After getting bought out by the Ottawa Senators last off-season, the Wings inked Ryan to a one-year, $1,000,000 deal in order to provide a veteran presence to the young club. Ryan would go on to score seven goals and 14 points in a season that was cut to 33 games due to injury.
Ryan, now 34 years old, was once one of the most productive power-forwards in the league, but injuries coupled with a battle with alcoholism slowed down his career when he was a member of the Senators. All told, Ryan has played 866 games over 14 seasons in the NHL, scoring 261 goals and racking up 569 points.
If he can prove he’s healthy and can be productive, the Wings will likely bring him back on another one-year deal to be a veteran presence.
