McCann was Seattle’s pick from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2021 Expansion Draft. The Kraken are the fifth organization that the 25-year-old has been a part of during his professional career.
He was selected by the Canucks with the 24th overall pick in the 2014 draft and got traded to the Florida Panthers in 2016 in a deal that sent defenseman Erik Gudbranson back to Vancouver. McCann was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins in February of 2019 and then to the Leafs in July of 2021.
McCann was only a member of the Leafs for a few days as the team opted to leave him exposed to Seattle.
All told, McCann has 87 goals and 33 points over the course of 403 career games in the NHL. His 21 goals this season are already a career high, and his 33 points are two shy of matching the best production of his career.
McCann was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season.
