The Suitcase and The Scribe – Ep. 20: An Interview with Stephen Whyno

Mike McKenna and Scott Burnside are back home from the NHL All-Star game in Las Vegas and welcomed Stephen Whyno from the Associated Press to chat some hockey.
Currently, Stephen is covering ice hockey at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, and that meant the guys had a bunch of questions from the entertainment on the ice to how robots are making food for the personnel at the games.
Following their interview with Whyno, there was only one place to go from there and that was the Boston Bruins. Before yesterday’s game, news broke that Tuukka Rask wouldn’t continue his comeback attempt with the Bruins which was surprising in itself. However, headlines quickly shifted after Brad Marchand got caught up in some antics with Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristen Jarry. After receiving a match penalty, the question became how long will Marchand be suspended?
The Oilers goaltending woes continue to dampen the team’s dream of becoming a Stanley Cup contender. Last night, Mike Smith returned in goal for Edmonton but received no run support from his teammates, falling 4-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights. That led Mike to talk about how former cup winners have gone through those same goaltending periods but came out on top eventually.
Lastly, the Chicago Blackhawks continued their General Manager search with a handful of new candidates, and Mike and Scott talked about how open they’ve been about who they are talking with and the pressures of being a GM in the NHL.
