The Suitcase and The Scribe – Ep. 21: Women’s Hockey Belongs at the Olympics

It’s Wednesday and that means Mike McKenna and Scott Burnside are back with another episode of The Suitcase and The Scribe!

The last seven days have been hectic in the hockey world with coaching changes, superstars hitting milestones, and, of course, the Winter Olympics happening over in Beijing.

With lots to get to, Mike and Scott start the show with a look at the Olympic Games and specifically women’s hockey as one of the greatest rivalries in sports begins another chapter when Team USA and Team Canada battle for Olympic gold later today. Some people suggest that women’s hockey shouldn’t be an Olympic sport anymore because Canada and the US are so dominant, but Mike disagreed vehemently with that take on today’s show.

Last night, Sidney Crosby scored his 500th NHL goal which is a tremendous accomplishment, and the guys dove into Sid’s milestone and what it means for Crosby and his family.

Also, on the show, Jack Eichel is set to return to the ice following his surgery. It’s great for hockey fans but maybe not as great for the Golden Knights, who now find themselves in cap hell. With the news that Mark Stone is heading to LTIR, fans around the league are now questioning if he is injured or is Vegas playing the old LTIR game. Mike and Scott discussed the LTIR rule and a way to repair it.

They also covered the Edmonton Oilers, the Dallas Stars, and the Tyler Toffoli trade.
