The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Wayne Simmonds to a two-year contract extension

Kyle Dubas has re-signed another one of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ veteran forwards.
A couple of weeks after inking Jason Spezza to a one-year deal, Wayne Simmonds has agreed to a two-year contract worth $900k annually.
Simmonds, a native of Scarborough, inked a one-year deal with the Leafs last off-season worth $1,500,000. He played in 38 games and scored seven goals and nine points. Simmonds also led the team with three fighting majors.
Though Simmonds is no longer the power-forward who was a lock to eclipse the 20-goal plateau, he provides value to the Leafs with his gritty, tough style of play. He was also a mainstay on Toronto’s power-play when he was healthy, scoring three goals on the man advantage as the team’s net-front presence.
Given his cap hit is only $900,000, the Leafs could bury Simmonds in the minors and not be charged anything against the salary cap if his play declines during the course of this deal. Simmonds will also be eligible to be selected in the upcoming Seattle Kraken Expansion Draft.
