The Winnipeg Jets saw their season come to an end with their Game 5 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, and now they face an offseason that could see a lot of change.

Rick Bowness’ comments in the postgame press conference showcased that even with three coaches in the last two seasons, this Jets core just can’t get pushed in the right direction. With Pierre-Luc Dubois wanting to play for the Montreal Canadiens, and Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck, and Blake Wheeler entering the final years of their deals, it may be time to move on from this group and make some big changes.

Frank Seravalli and Mike McKenna talked about the Jets offseason plans, and specifically, what they would do first.

Mike McKenna: I’d trade Scheifele. He’s been there too long, and you’ve got to shake the room. I know he’s scored 42 goals, so at least he has a little bit of trade value, but those big -16 and -17 these past two seasons, I don’t like it. And his cap hit will give them some flexibility, especially knowing he’s due a new deal after this coming one.

Frank Seravalli: Yeah, he’s due a new deal, as is Connor Hellebuyck. I think that is the biggest question facing the Winnipeg Jets this offseason. He can sign an extension as of July 1st, will he want to? And if not, should the Winnipeg Jets consider dealing him this summer?

Mike McKenna: It’s going to come down to Hellebuyck. If he wants to be, you pay him. 6-7 year deal, $8 million, whatever it is, he’s going to get that money, it just comes down to Connor. And he’s got to be honest with that club.

Frank Seravalli: It’s a great question, and lots to sift through if you’re the Winnipeg Jets and their fanbase. I think Rick Bowness’ comments were spot on, this team, when punched in the face, never really had a response. And as I watched that game last night, the first thing I thought was exactly what he said: no pushback.
