Three members of junior hockey team killed in collision in Alberta

On Monday, three players from a junior hockey team in southern Alberta were killed in a motor vehicle crash.
The Southern Alberta Mustangs, a team from Stavely, Alberta that competes in the United States Premier Hockey League, confirmed the deaths in a post on social media.
The Southern Alberta Mustangs based out of Stavely confirm three players died in a car accident on their way to practive Monday.
The Mustangs stated that the three players were killed in a collision on the way to practice, and they are working closely with authorities, as well as continuing to support the players, staff and the affected families “during this incredibly difficult time.”
“There are no words that can adequately express the depth of our grief,” the statement read. “These young men were more than hockey players – they were teammates, sons, brothers, friends, and deeply loved members of our Mustangs family and the communities we call home.
Our hearts are with the families, friends, billet families, teammates, coaches, and everyone who loved them. We ask that their families be given privacy and compassion as they navigate this devastating loss.during this incredibly difficult time.
“There are no words that can adequately express the depth of our grief,” reads the statement. “These young men were more than hockey players — they were teammates, sons, brothers, friends and deeply loved members of our Mustangs family and the communities we call home. We are a family, and today our family is hurting.”
The RCMP confirmed that there was a collision on Highway 2 at 55 Avenue in Stavely, a town southeast of Calgary and home to less than 600 people. Emergency Health Services stated that the crash was between a gravel truck and a smaller car. The driver of the gravel truck wasn’t injured.
According to Global News, the players were forwards Caden Fine and JJ Wright and goaltender Cameron Casorso.
Fine, a native of Birmingham, Ala., was in his first year of junior hockey. He had graduated from Columbus High School in Georgia. Wright and Carsorso came to the team from Kamloops, B.C., and were also in their first seasons with the team.
