A massive three-way trade has dropped with huge implications across the league.

According to DailyFaceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the trade started with Ryan Ellis being sent to the Philadelphia Flyers for Nolan Patrick and defenceman Phillipe Myers.

The Predators then flipped Patrick to the Vegas Golden Knights for Cody Glass.

Seravalli said that with the Flyers moving Patrick, they now have the ability to protect James van Riemsdyk.

For the Flyers, they acquire a veteran defenceman in Ellis, 30, that has played in the league for 10 years. Drafted by the Predators 11th overall in the 2009 draft, Ellis has played in 562 games scoring 75 goals and 270 points. This last year, he scored five goals and 18 points in 35 games.

According to hockeyviz.com, Ellis contributed even-strength offence at a three percent rate above league average and even-strength defence at a one percent rate below league average. With him on the ice, the Predators controlled 53.22 percent of the shot attempts, 52.83 percent of the goals and 50.24 percent of the expected goals.

He has five years left on a deal paying him an AAV of $6.25-million.

Arguably the biggest piece being moved in all this is Patrick, 22, who has seemingly fallen out of favour after serious struggles this year. He now gets a fresh start in Vegas with general manager Kelly McCrimmon, who knows him wells from his days in the WHL.

In Patrick’s three year NHL career, he’s scored 30 goals and 70 points in 197 games.

Myers, 24, was undrafted into the NHL and has played for the Flyers for the last three years appearing in 115 games scoring six goals and 29 points. According to hockeyviz.com, he provided even-strength at a five percent rate below league average and defence at a one percent rate below league average.

Lastly, Glass struggled to gain traction in Vegas despite some early success. The 22-year-old, who was the club’s first-ever draft pick taken sixth overall in 2017, has played 66 games through two seasons scoring nine goals and 22 points.
