— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) December 16, 2021This is the most recent response in Canada to the surge in COVID-19 cases due in part to the new Omicron variant.
On Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators announced that they would be playing their games at half capacity. There had been speculation that both Quebec and British Columbia’s provincial governments would request the Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks limit their capacities.
This will be the first time all season that the Habs have limited the amount of fans in the stands. They played all of the 2020 regular season and first round of their playoff run last spring without fans and welcomed in limited capacity for the second round, Conference Final, and Stanley Cup Final.
There’s no word yet on how long Montreal plans to play without fans.
