Tim Peel believes Brendan Lemieux should get a 10-game suspension

Brendan Lemieux’s biting might earn himself a long timeout.

Lemieux will have an in-person hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety after he was kicked out of a game for biting Brady Tkachuk’s hand over the weekend. Since the hearing is in person, Lemieux can be suspended for more than six games.

Former NHL referee Tim Peel joined The Daily Faceoff Show on Monday to explain why he believes the league should throw the book at Lemieux…

Peel: “I can tell you, in 23 years in the league, I never had an incident where a player bit another player. It’s just something that doesn’t happen in our sport.

To me, my feelings with Brendan Lemieux on the ice is that he’s a player who doesn’t respect the game. I know he certainly doesn’t respect the officials. Brady Tkachuk’s comments about his teammates not liking him, I can’t comment on that, but I know from personally dealing with him that I don’t think he respects the game and I don’t think he respects the players.

I think the league has to really set an example here that this won’t be tolerated. This is a classless, disrespectful act, and I think he’ll receive a 10-game suspension for this, and rightfully so.

I equate biting to spitting. Those are the two worst things you can do in hockey. To me, it just shows a complete lack of respect for your opponents and a lack of respect for the game.”
