Top 2024 NHL Draft prospect Macklin Celebrini steals show at Beanpot

The Beanpot kicked off last night, which featured Boston University superstar and projected No. 1 overall pick for the 2024 NHL Draft, Macklin Celebrini. Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss Celebrini’s NCAA dominance and how he stole the show during BU’s 4-3 victory over Boston College.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Last night out in the Boston area it was Macklin Celebrini stealing the show as the Beanpot got kicked off. Honestly up in Canada, people don’t consider the Beanpot a significant thing, a lot of casual and even die-hard hockey fans wouldn’t even know it’s happening. But give me some context Frank, this is a massive deal in the college game.
Frank Seravalli: Well it’s really just a massive deal in Boston. You’ve got the four teams that represent the city that are facing off against each other and they play the two games at TD Garden and then the championship there as well. So next week you’ll see Celebrini again and then the goal he scored last night was just next level. Perfectly placed shot, power, and the celly, as well as the post-game interview, was off the charts. First off, the atmosphere in TD Garden is electric, you can see the reaction from the BU faithful.
Frank Seravalli: What we’re dealing with is a slam dunk No. 1 overall pick and there were a number of NHL GMs in the building last night for that game I was messaging one of them and I said “How good is Celebrini compared to Bedard?” And the answer I got was “probably a notch below bedard but if Celebrini was part of the class that included Fantilli and Carlsson, he would be above those two guys.” So if you’ve watched those two guys and put Celebrini a notch above those guys but a bit behind Bedard it gives you some indication of how special this kid really is.
Tyler Yarmechuk: The title for our show is “Slackin for Macklin” and as far as draft slogans go that’s as good as “Fall for Hall” and “Fail for Nail”
Frank Seravalli: Yes, that’s outstanding, it’s elite. Go over to DailyFaceoff.com and we’ve got the draft lottery odds and the Chicago Blackhawks are in the lead right now as the San Jose Sharks have been looking good since Logan Couture returned. So keep an eye on the draft lottery standings, you can only win the lottery twice in the span of five years and the Blackhawks did it last year with Bedard and they can do it again. Think about what a boost that would be and of course today’s news dropped that the Blackhawks will be hosting the 2025 Winter Classic against the St Louis Blues could you imagine if Celebrini was in the lineup as well for Chicago?
