Leafs assign Anthony Stolarz to AHL on conditioning stint

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Tuesday that they have assigned goalie Anthony Stolarz to their AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies on a conditioning loan.
It’s a big development that signals the American goalie’s return to NHL action could be drawing closer. Stolarz has not appeared in a game for the Maple Leafs since November 11, when he exited a game in Boston after the first period.
In his limited action so far this season, Stolarz has a 6-5-1 record with a save percentage of .884 and a 3.51 goals against average.
Stolarz entered the year as the top option in the Leafs’ crease after posting a stellar .926 SV% in a limited role in 2024-25 that saw him go 21-8-3 across 34 appearances.
Prior to joining Toronto’s organization last year, Stolarz had stints with Philadelphia, Edmonton, Anaheim and Florida, where he was part of the 2023-24 Stanley Cup champion Panthers.
G Anthony Stolarz has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies (AHL) on a conditioning loan.
After signing a two-year deal with an average annual value of $2.5 million to join the Leafs, Stolarz agreed to a four-year contract extension that will carry a salary cap hit of $3.75 million when it kicks in next season.
Stolarz should get plenty of opportunity to get some work in with the Marlies, who are idle until Friday, when they begin a back-to-back-to-back situation that will take them through the weekend.
The Leafs have made up considerable ground in the standings over the past month, as they bottomed out earlier this year in last place in the Eastern Conference. A recent hot stretch that includes a 6-2-2 run in their past 10 games has them just one spot out of the East’s second wild card spot just a point behind the Buffalo Sabres, who have a game in hand.
After their loss in St. Paul on Monday night, the Leafs still have a tall task ahead of them for the rest of the week, though it will at least come in the form of a homestand. Toronto will welcome three of the NHL’s top eight teams to Scotiabank Arena, as the Detroit Red Wings, Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche come through.
