Maple Leafs’ Matthews, Stolarz leave game with injuries
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on social media that forward Auston Matthews (lower-body injury) and goaltender Anthony Stolarz (upper-body injury) left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins and would not return.

Matthews, 28, left the game midway through the second period after taking a hit from behind from Bruins’ defenseman Nikita Zadorov. Matthews fell awkwardly into the boards and got up slowly, heading straight to the Leafs’ locker room.
The Toronto captain finished the night with 10:51 of ice time.

Through 17 games this season, Matthews has nine goals and five assists for 14 points. After a slow start, he went into Tuesday night having scored a goal in four of his last five contests. Now in his 10th NHL campaign, Matthews, taken No. 1 overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, has 410 goals and 331 assists for 741 points in 646 career regular-season games.
As for Stolarz, it’s unclear how the 31-year-old netminder was injured. He was replaced by Dennis Hildeby after the first period after giving up three goals on seven shots.
Going into Tuesday night, Stolarz has a 6-5-1 record with an .889 save percentage (SV%) and 3.35 goals against average (GAA) in 12 appearances. Through nine NHL seasons, Stolarz, a 2012 second-round pick, has a 70-44-13 record with a .915 SV% and 2.60 GAA in 154 career games with the Leafs, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers.
The Leafs are 8-7-1 with 17 points through their first 16 games of 2025-26. William Nylander leads the team in points with 23 (eight goals and 15 assists) while Matthews and John Tavares are tied with nine goals each.
