After a nightmarish homestand which saw them lose all five games and escape with only one point, the Toronto Maple Leafs were hoping to change their momentum on a four-game road trip through the Northwest. However, the road trip also got off to a poor start, as they lost 5-2 to the Seattle Kraken on Thursday. Now, they’ve lost six games in a row, eight of their last nine, and they’re 10 points out of a playoff spot.

Craig Berube has taken plenty of criticism for the team’s struggles, as his systems don’t seem to be a fit for this team at times, especially for the core group of players, and as a motivator, it already looks like he lost the room. But at the same time, the Leafs are just one year removed from winning the Atlantic Division for the first time under the current realignment and winning the most playoff games in one season in the salary cap era, with Berube at the helm of it. He’s also only in his second season behind the Toronto bench.

Will a coaching change give the Leafs the spark they need to save their season? Is it too late into the season for a change to accomplish anything? Is it too early in Berube’s tenure to give up on him? Carter Hutton gave his take on if Berube should stay behind the Leafs bench for at least the rest of the season or not on Daily Faceoff Live.

Carter Hutton: I think it’s too late. I don’t know if this falls on Berube.

I did feel like, listening to them talk last night, it felt like more of a united front from the room, [there was] less drama, or they just accepted the fact that this is who they are, and they’re going to have to try to figure their way through it. But I don’t think we see a firing right now. I just think it’s early and this thing has sailed.

What I do think happens is we start seeing some pieces move out of Toronto because at this point, you’re losing to the Seattle Kraken like this, your season’s done in my opinion.
