Leafs place Bo Groulx on waivers

An experienced center is expected to head back to the minors.
On Monday, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed forward Bo Groulx on waivers, making him available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.
If Groulx clears waivers on Tuesday, he can be assigned to the Maple Leafs’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
Groulx has been with the Leafs since the onset of the 2026-27 season, but has only played sparingly, having spent most of the first month as a healthy scratch. He was last in the lineup last Thursday, when Toronto fell to the Seattle Kraken, 5-4. In that contest, Groulx logged 6:23 of ice time, putting one shot on goal.
In seven appearances thus far, the 26-year-old has yet to register a point. He has a plus/minus of +1 while averaging a hair over eight minutes of ice time per game. The beginning of the new season comes after he played 13 games for the Leafs last year, his first NHL experience in two years, posting three goals and five points.
Groulx proved to be a key piece in the Marlies’ success last year. Along with scoring a career-high 28 goals and 52 points in 59 regular-season games, the Rouen, France native posted eight goals and 14 points in 23 playoff contests, helping the Marlies win the franchise’s second Calder Cup.
In 85 games in the NHL, Groulx has notched four goals and six assists for 10 points. He’s in the second season of a two-year contract, which he signed with the Leafs in July 2025. The one-way deal carries a cap hit of $812,500.
Only one player was put on waivers on Sunday: Washington Capitals defenseman Dylan McIlrath. He cleared on Monday and has been assigned to the Hershey Bears, the Capitals’ primary affiliate.
