A veteran centerman is heading to The Six.

As NHL free agency opened on Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Colton Sissons to a two-year contract. The deal will carry an AAV of $4.25 million through the end of 2027-28 season.

Sissons came to the end of his seven-year contract that he signed with the Nashville Predators in July 2019. That deal had an AAV of $2,857,143.

Sissons spent the 2025-26 campaign with the Vegas Golden Knights. After spending the first 11 seasons of his NHL career with the Predators, he was traded to the Golden Knights last June, along with Jeremy Lauzon, for Nicolas Hague and a 2027 draft pick. The deal proved beneficial for Sissons, as he joined a team that certainly had the talent to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. While his numbers weren’t ideal, scoring just six goals and five assists for 11 points in 66 games, Vegas had a late-season surge to finish atop the Pacific Division.

The 32-year-old proved to be a solid depth piece in the postseason, scoring two goals and eight points in 22 games, as the Golden Knights made it to the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in franchise history. Vegas ultimately lost to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games.

Sissons comes to Toronto, not necessarily expected to bring a considerable amount of offense, especially since he’s only reached the 30-point mark three times in his entire NHL career. However, for a team that is going through a transition period, he can provide depth and experience down the middle, as the Leafs look to get back to the postseason after missing out this past spring, ending the team’s nine-year playoff streak.

In 756 regular-season games in the NHL, Sissons has scored 101 goals and 131 assists for 232 points, with another 33 points in 93 playoff contests.
