Toronto Maple Leafs sign Nicolas Aube-Kubel to one-year, $1 million contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel to a one-year contract worth $1 million, the club announced Wednesday.
Aube-Kubel, 26, split the 2021–22 season between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Colorado Avalanche, ultimately winning the Stanley Cup with the latter team.

The Avalanche claimed Aube-Kubel off waivers from the Flyers in November 2021. The Slave Lake, Alberta product scored 11 goals and 22 points in 67 games with Colorado in 2021–22 before making 14 appearances during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Flyers originally selected Aube-Kubel in the second round (No. 48 overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. He became a regular National Hockey League player with Philadelphia in 2019–20, scoring seven goals and 15 points in 36 games before adding three points in 13 playoff appearances.
Aube-Kubel is a 5’11, 187-pound right-handed forward who has appeared in 169 regular-season games during his NHL career with Philadelphia and Colorado. He’s racked up 21 goals and 50 points in his four NHL seasons.
The Maple Leafs now have 14 forwards with NHL experience under contract for 2022–23: Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Alex Kerfoot, David Kampf, Michael Bunting, Aube-Kubel, Wayne Simmonds, Nick Robertson, Kyle Clifford, Joey Anderson, Nick Abruzzese, and Alex Steeves. Additionally, the Maple Leafs have Pierre Engvall as an RFA with arbitration rights.
