Maple Leafs’ Steven Lorentz leaves game against Red Wings with upper-body injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on social media Saturday night that forward Steven Lorentz left their game against the Detroit Red Wings with an upper-body injury and would not return.

Lorentz was not on the bench with his teammates to start the second period after playing just 1:17 of ice time in the first, according to Sportsnet’s Luke Fox.

The Maple Leafs would lose the game 6-3 to the Red Wings, thanks in large part to a three-point effort from Patrick Kane.
Lorentz recorded two assists in the Maple Leafs’ first game in 2025-26, a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Lorentz played his first season with the Maple Leafs in 2024-25, scoring eight goals and adding 11 assists for 19 points in 80 regular-season games. He also played in 13 playoff games with the team, recording two assists.
Through six NHL seasons, Lorentz, a native of Waterloo, Ont., has 29 goals and 35 assists for 64 points in 311 career regular-season games with the Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks and Carolina Hurricanes.
He’s also played in 45 playoff games, recording two goals and six assists for eight points. He was also part of the Panthers’ 2024 Stanley Cup championship squad.
Lorentz, taken in the seventh round by the Hurricanes in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, spent parts of three seasons in the AHL, scoring 26 goals and adding 29 assists for 55 points in 93 career regular-season games with the Charlotte Checkers.
The 6-foot-4 forward also spent four seasons in the OHL with the Peterborough Petes, recording 75 goals and 89 assists for 164 points.
