Marlies sign Alex Nylander to one-year AHL contract

The other Nylander is staying in Toronto for another season.
On Monday, the Toronto Marlies, American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced that the team has signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year AHL contract.

Nylander first moved to Toronto last summer, as he signed a one-year deal with the Marlies after being left unsigned by an NHL club. He spent the first month and change in the minors before the Maple Leafs, who were hit with the injury bug, signed the Swedish winger to a prorated one-year contract in late November.
Nylander ended up playing five games for the Leafs, posting no points while registering a plus/minus of -1 while averaging just under 10 minutes of ice time per game. His last game came on December 7 before being placed on waivers.
The 27-year-old ended up playing the rest of the year with the Marlies and was one of the team’s better scoring threats. In 64 games, Nylander potted 23 goals and 21 assists for 44 points, finishing second on the team in goals and points behind Alex Steeves. He also scored a goal in the team’s first-round series against the Cleveland Monsters, the Columbus Blue Jackets‘ primary affiliate, with the Marlies getting swept in the best-of-three series.
Across seven AHL seasons, which include stops with the Rochester Americans, Rockford IceHogs, and Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, Nylander has appeared in 394 regular-season contests, scoring 117 goals and 137 assists for 254 points. He’s amassed seven points in 11 Calder Cup Playoff games as well.
Over his NHL career, the Calgary native has played for the Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins and Blue Jackets. In 126 NHL games, scoring 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points.
