Toronto Sceptres activate Megan Carter, will make PWHL debut Saturday

One of the more highly-touted prospects is finally set to make her PWHL debut.
The Toronto Sceptres have announced that defender Megan Carter has been activated from long-term injured reserve. She will enter the lineup for the first time on Saturday when the Sceptres face the New York Sirens in the second annual Battle on Bay Street at Scotiabank Arena.
Carter was taken by Toronto in the second round, 12th overall, in this past year’s PWHL Draft. There was a lot of excitement surrounding the Milton, Ontario native, but an unspecified lower-body injury during the offseason led to her being placed on LTIR, forcing her to miss almost the first three months of the season.
After such a long layoff, Carter says she’s excited to make her pro debut.
“I’ve been looking forward to playing professional hockey in the PWHL since the league’s inaugural season and now that the day is here, I couldn’t be more excited,” Carter said. “I’ve felt so much love and support from everyone around me throughout this process and I’m grateful to my teammates for making the transition back to being on the ice with the team so smooth.”
Carter will join a D-Corps that looks a little different since she signed her two-year contract this past offseason. Renata Fast is no longer flanked by her longtime partner Jocelyne Larocque, as she, and Victoria Bach, was traded to the Ottawa Charge for Savannah Harmon and Hayley Scamurra. However, Carter’s ability should give Toronto a needed boost as they try to climb out of the cellar.
Carter entered the PWHL after an exceptional five years on the blue line at Northeastern University, playing alongside the likes of current PWHLers Alina Müller, Gwyneth Philips and Maureen Murphy. From 2019 to 2024, in which she became one of the top defenders in Hockey East, Carter scored 18 goals and 86 points in 165 games, captaining the Huskies last year.
Carter also won gold with Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.
The Sceptres (3-0-2-6) will face the Sirens at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. Toronto is last in the PWHL, five points back of the Sirens (3-3-1-3) for the last playoff spot.
