Sceptres re-sign Kiara Zanon to two-year contract

The Toronto Sceptres announced Tuesday that forward Kiara Zanon has been re-signed to a two-year contract through the 2027-28 season.
During her rookie season in 2025-26, Zanon had a goal and two assists for three points, averaging 11:58 of ice time in 30 games. She was selected by the team in the second round of the 2025 PWHL Draft.
She scored her first PWHL goal in her regular-season debut against the Minnesota Frost.
Zanon played five seasons of college hockey, three with Penn State University and two with The Ohio State University. In 171 career NCAA games, she scored 75 goals and recorded 116 assists for 191 points. Her best statistical season came in 2022-23 with Penn State, where she finished with 26 goals and 23 assists for 49 points in just 38 games.
She was a two-time Patty Kazmaier Award finalist and helped the Buckeyes win the National Championship in 2024.
Internationally, Zanon helped the U.S. Under-18 squad earn both a gold and silver medal at the IIHF U18 World Championships in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
The Sceptres went 10-1-6-13 with 38 points in 2025-26, six points back of the final playoff spot and failed to clinch a postseason berth for the first time in franchise history.
In the offseason, Toronto announced Pascal Rheaume would become the second head coach in team history, taking over for Troy Ryan, who stepped down to join PWHL San Jose as both their head coach and general manager.
PWHL teams will announce training camp rosters this week, inviting between 28 to 32 players. Training camps will open Nov. 18 after the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Denmark is completed. Teams will then compete in two scrimmages between Nov. 22 and 30.
