Sceptres re-sign Sara Hjalmarsson to two-year contract

The Toronto Sceptres are less than two months away from dropping the puck for the fourth season of the PWHL and took the next step to solidify their opening-night roster on Tuesday by re-signing forward Sara Hjalmarsson.
A native of Bankeryd, Sweden, Hjalmarsson has re-upped with the Sceptres on a two-year deal through the 2027-28 season, keeping her with the team she joined last season after spending the first years of her professional career in Sweden’s SDHL.
Last season, Hjalmarsson netted just three goals and no assists in 30 games, while playing a depth role in head coach Troy Ryan’s system, which struggled to produce offense across the roster. However, she showed offensive flashes while playing for her national team, scoring two goals and three assists for five points in seven games at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics, despite falling short of the podium.
Outside of the recent Olympics with Sweden, she has represented the Tre Krönor twice more on the Olympic stage and has played for her country at six IIHF Women’s World Championships, earning Swedish Player of the Year honors in 2024-25.
Before her professional career began with Linköping HC in the SDHL, she suited up for Providence College in the NCAA, leading up to her selection in the fifth round of the 2025 PWHL Draft.
By securing Hjalmarsson for the upcoming campaign, the Sceptres now sit at 17 signed players of the 29 who will attend next month’s training camp, leading up to the team’s season-opening contest against the Ottawa Charge on Dec. 6 at the Canadian Tire Centre, following preseason matchups in November against expansion side PWHL Hamilton and the same Charge that they will open their season against.
Last season, the Sceptres finished fifth in the then eight-team league, missing out on the Walter Cup Playoffs.
