Another talented young prospect has signed her first pro contract.

On Tuesday, the Toronto Sceptres announced that the team has signed forward Emma Gentry to a two-year contract that will carry through the 2026-27 season.

Gentry was taken by the Sceptres in the second round, 11th overall, of the 2025 PWHL Draft. She was Toronto’s first pick, as general manager Gina Kingsbury dealt the team’s third overall pick, as well as their fourth-round pick, to the New York Sirens for defender Ella Shelton.

Gentry confirms her excitement for joining one of the best teams in the short history of the league.

“I’m incredibly thankful to the entire staff for believing in me, and I’m excited to meet the amazing fans,” Gentry said in a release. “Compete alongside some of the best players in the world, and work with such an elite coaching staff. I take pride in being a relentless competitor who plays a physical, hard-working game, and I’m ready to bring that every time I step on the ice.”

Gentry comes to Toronto after a solid four-year career at St. Cloud State University. Not necessarily known as a big-time scorer, scoring no more than 23 points in a single season, the Alpena, Michigan native made herself a touted prospect by proving she can be an effective two-way defender in the top-heavy WCHA. Standing at 5-foot-11, she can provide some hard-checking that the Sceptres could use up front as they try to ward off their playoff woes.

Across five seasons with the Huskies, captaining the team during her final season with the program, Gentry appeared in 152 games, scoring 59 goals and 31 assists for 90 points. In 2023-24, she was named Third Team All-WCHA.

Along with her collegiate career, the 22-year-old has collected hardware from the international stage. She was on the United States team that won the gold medal at the 2020 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.

Gentry is the first of Toronto’s four draft picks to sign a standard player agreement. Sara Hjalmarsson, Kiara Zanon and Clara Van Wieren have yet to sign with the team.
