Gosling scores twice, Sceptres beat Frost 3-2 in Game 1

Julia Gosling scored two goals in 1:55 and Kristen Campbell made 19 saves as the Toronto Sceptres defeated the Minnesota Frost 3-2 Wednesday night to take a 1-0 series lead.

Blayre Turnbull opened the scoring midway through the first period, taking a loose puck from the corner and walking in front of the net, deking out Nicole Hensley and burying a shot to make it 1-0. Toronto outshot Minnesota 12-6 in the opening frame.

In the second period, Gosling intercepted a Frost breakout attempt, carrying it into the Minnesota and having her first shot blocked before grabbing the puck and wristing it past Hensley to make it 2-0.

Less than two minutes later, after Frost forward Brook McQuigge took a high sticking penalty, the Sceptres pounced on a failed Minnesota clearing attempt. Hannah Miller fed Gosling a one-time pass, with Gosling getting it past Hensley to make it 3-0.

Four minutes later, after Toronto defender Allie Munroe was called for interference, Minesota’s Britta Curl buried a rebound to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Toronto continued peppering Hensley with shots, recording 15 in the second period and outshooting Minnesota 15-11.

Early in the third period, Frost forward Katy Knoll, who scored one goal during the regular season, pounced on a rebound from a Klara Hymlarova shot to make it 3-2.

The Frost put the pressure on the Sceptres through the final frame, but Toronto held on to win 3-2 and take a 1-0 series lead over the defending Walter Cup champions.

• Kali Flanagan led all skaters in ice time with 26:38, while Sophie Jaques led Frost skaters with 24:56.
• Renata Fast finished with seven shots, the most she’s ever recorded in a PWHL game.
• Hensley made 34 saves, more than she saved during the entire 2024-25 regular season.
