Travis Zajac is heading back to where it all began to put a bow on his career.

The 36-year-old centre has inked a one-day contract to retire with the New Jersey Devils.
Originally drafted 20th overall in the 2004 NHL draft, Zajac played all but 13 of his 1037 career games with the Devils. With the team he appeared in 1024 NHL games scoring 202 goals and 550 points. Zajac finished his career with a short stint with the New York Islanders.
He ranks fourth in franchise history in games played, third in goals, fifth in assists and third in points.
Zajac will be joining the Devils front office in a development and consulting role.
