A couple of players have hit the wire just over a week before the trade deadline.

On Thursday, the St. Louis Blues placed forward Mathieu Joseph on waivers, as have the Seattle Kraken with winger Tye Kartye.

If both players clear on Friday, they will be eligible to be assigned to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.

Joseph’s name has come up as a possible piece over the next eight days. A solid depth winger with a championship pedigree, having won Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021, the 29-year-old could provide some veteran experience to a playoff hopeful. However, no one has been able to work a deal with general manager Doug Armstrong. Joseph was listed as a non-roster player earlier on Thursday to make room for forward Dylan Holloway, who was coming off injured reserve.

Injuries and being a healthy scratch are the cause to why Joseph has appeared in just 39 games so far this season. The Laval, Que. native has scored just two goals and nine assists for 11 points, not far behind his tough 2024-25 season, where he posted just 14 points in 60 games.

Joseph is in the final season of his four-year contract, which he signed with the Ottawa Senators in July 2022. The deal carried an AAV of $2.95 million, with the player becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Joseph has scored 61 goals and 99 assists for 160 points in 459 regular-season games in the NHL. He’s also posted three points in 13 postseason games.

Kartye has also been scratched several times this year. The 24-year-old has appeared in 40 of the Kraken’s 57 games thus far, having scored three goals and five assists for eight points. He’s in the first year of his two-year contract that he signed this past July, with the deal carrying a cap hit of $1.25 million through the 2026-27 campaign.

Washington Capitals forward Sonny Milano, the only player put on waivers on Wednesday, cleared. He has been loaned to the Hershey Bears, the Caps’ primary affiliate.
