Two NHL prospects suspended by AHL for violating performance-enhancing substance program

A couple of NHL prospects are going to sit out some action for an extended period of time due to their choices.
On Tuesday, the American Hockey League announced that Coachella Valley Firebirds forward David Goyette and Rockford IceHogs goaltender Stanislav Berezhnoy have been suspended 20 games for “violating the terms of the AHL/PHPA Performance Enhancing Substance Program.”

Berezhnoy has already served the first game of his suspension, having not played in Rockford’s game this past Sunday against the Milwaukee Admirals. The 22-year-old is eligible to return to the lineup on April 11, when the IceHogs take on the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Goyette will be out of action until April 10, when the Firebirds take on the Ontario Reign.
Berezhnoy is in his first season with the Chicago Blackhawks organization after years playing in his native Russia, signing a two-year contract with the team this past July. He was called up to the Hawks last month, but didn’t see any game action. In 15 games with the IceHogs, the Novokuznetsk native has a record of 5-9-1 with a 3.18 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
Goyette was taken by the Seattle Kraken in the second round, 61st overall, of the 2022 NHL Draft. After finishing up his junior career with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League, he has spent his entire pro career in Coachella Valley. This season, the 21-year-old has scored three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 47 games.
Goyette also has yet to appear in an NHL game. In 115 career games with the Firebirds, he has notched nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points.
