Utah Hockey Club acquired defenseman Olli Maatta from the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick.

In seven games this season, the 30-year-old Maatta had no points and a 44 percent even-strength Corsi, averaging 15:52 of ice time. In two of his last three games, he registered less than 14 minutes of ice time.
Now in his 12th NHL season, Maatta has 40 goals and 137 assists for 177 points in 691 regular-season games with the Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Finnish blueliner won two Stanley Cup championships with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017, just his third and fourth seasons in the league.
Maatta has played in seven Stanley Cup Playoff seasons, scoring five goals and 22 assists for 27 points in 85 playoff games.
The Finnish blueliner was drafted No. 22 overall by the Penguins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Before turning professional, Maatta won back-to-back Ontario Hockey League Championships with the London Knights. In two OHL seasons, he scored 13 goals and 57 assists for 70 points in 115 regular-season games.
During his time with the Knights, Maatta also scored 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points in 40 OHL playoff games.
