Utah HC place Dakota Mermis on waivers

Utah Hockey Club placed defenseman Dakota Mermis on waivers Thursday, with the purpose of being assigned to the club’s AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners.

Mermis has played one game with Utah HC in 2024-25, with two penalty minutes and a minus-two rating. He has also played in three AHL games with the Toronto Marlies this season, recording one assist, six penalty minutes and a plus-two rating.
The left-handed defender spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Wild organization, bouncing up and down between the NHL club and their AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild. In 2023-24, Mermis scored three goals and five assists for eight points and 33 penalty minutes in 47 regular-season games in Minnesota, as well as two assists in five AHL games.
In eight NHL seasons, Mermis has scored four goals and eight assists for 12 points and 39 penalty minutes with Utah HC, the Wild, the New Jersey Devils and Arizona Coyotes.
In nine AHL seasons, Mermis has 21 goals and 119 assists for 140 points in 434 career regular-season games with the Marlies, Wild, Binghamton Devils, Tuscon Roadrunners and Springfield Falcons.
Mermis, who went undrafted, won two OHL Championships in junior: one with the London Knights, and another with the Oshawa Generals.
Utah HC is 16-15-6 with 38 points, sixth in the Central Division and nine points back of a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. The club has lost five straight games and is 4-4-2 in their last 10 games.
Utah’s next game is Thursday on the road against the Calgary Flames, followed by a trip to Texas to face the Dallas Stars this Saturday.
