Mammoth acquire Trocheck from Rangers for Durzi, Beaudoin, pick

The Utah Mammoth have consistently been on the hunt for high-end talent under general manager Bill Armstrong, and it appears they have landed another major target.
According to a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Mammoth have acquired veteran center Vincent Trocheck from the New York Rangers in a blockbuster trade.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Rangers are getting defenseman Sean Durzi, forward prospect Cole Beaudoin and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft back as the return. Beaudoin posted 88 points in 54 games as captain of the OHL’s Barrie Colts this season, and he was a late first-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Trocheck has three years remaining on a seven-year contract he signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent at a salary cap hit of $5.625 million.
The Pittsburgh native’s name has been in trade rumors for the better part of a year following two consecutive disappointing years that saw the Rangers slide further and further out of the playoff picture.
Trocheck has remained productive even as the team on Broadway struggled. He had 53 points in 67 games this season, which followed a 59-point effort over a full 82-game workload in 2024-25. The best year of Trocheck’s career came with the Rangers in 2023-24 as the team won the Presidents’ Trophy and advanced to the Eastern Conference final while he racked up 77 points in 82 games.
A member of the gold medal-winning Team USA squad at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Trocheck played a fourth-line role as a face-off specialist and penalty killer, producing three points, all assists, in six appearances.
Now with the Mammoth, Trocheck will join an impressive forward unit that already features fellow Pittsburgh native Logan Cooley and Nick Schmaltz at the center position.
With talented wingers like Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther in the lineup, Utah has the makings of a deep, talented forward core. The Mammoth are coming off their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in their second year as a franchise, and they were ousted in the first round by the Vegas Golden Knights.
