Utah Mammoth forward Alex Kerfoot left Friday’s game against the St. Louis Blues with an upper-body injury and did not return, the club announced that evening.

Kerfoot, 31, logged just 2:21 of ice time over five shifts before leaving the game in the first period. His last shift ended with exactly 11 minutes remaining in the opening frame, at which point the Mammoth and Blues were locked in a scoreless tie.

Despite missing Kerfoot for most of the game, the Mammoth beat the Blues at Delta Center on Friday by a 4-2 final score, with Nick Schmaltz scoring twice and Lawson Crouse and Sean Durzi netting the other two goals.

Kerfoot has appeared in just nine games with the Mammoth this year. The Vancouver, B.C. product missed the start of the 2025-26 campaign after undergoing surgery in October to address a core muscle injury, which delayed his season debut until December 19.

Over eight games with the Mammoth prior to Friday’s contest in Salt Lake City, Kerfoot collected one goal while averaging 11:20 of ice time. The 5’11” center is currently on a one-year contract with the Mammoth carrying a $3 million NHL cap hit.

A fifth-round pick (No. 150 overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Draft, Kerfoot spent four years at Harvard after being drafted. He then signed with the Colorado Avalanche in 2017 as a free agent, spending the first two seasons of his NHL career in the Mile High City before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019.

After a four-year tenure in Toronto which saw him score a career-high 51 points in 2021-22, Kerfoot signed a two-year contract with the Arizona Coyotes as an unrestricted free agent in 2023. He remained with the club through its relocation to Utah in 2024, re-signing with them following the 2024-25 season.

In 614 career NHL games over parts of nine seasons with Colorado, Toronto, Arizona, and Utah, Kerfoot has collected 99 goals and 293 points. He’s added six goals and 18 points in 48 playoff contests with the Avalanche and Maple Leafs.
