The Utah Mammoth will be without star center Logan Cooley for the foreseeable future after the team announced that the 21-year-old would be out indefinitely on Monday.

Cooley, now in his third NHL season, missed Saturday night’s clash against the Calgary Flames due to a lower body injury and will miss his second game on Monday night when Utah hosts the LA Kings

The native of Pittsburgh potentially suffered the injury when he crashed hard into the net posts in the third period of Utah’s 4-1 Friday night win over the Vancouver Canucks. While he continued on to finish the game, that moment stood out as the potential cause of injury.

In his absence, Barrett Hayton drew back into the center role against the Flames after sitting as a healthy scratch the game prior. He is expected to remain in the role as Cooley works his way back.

So far this season, Cooley has 14 goals and 23 points, as well as 13 blocked shots and 34 hits in 29 games, serving as a fixture on the team’s top powerplay unit. He has also averaged 17:49 ice time per night, a slight dip on the 2024-25 season where he skated 17:52.

Yet, he has already had a few injury concerns this season before his indefinite absence. On Nov. 30, the 21-year-old forward left a contest against the St. Louis Blues following a knee-on-knee collision with Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko.

Last season, the third overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft netted 25 goals and 65 points for a career-high production as an NHL sophomore, marking a 21-point improvement from his rookie campaign.

The Mammoth sit fourth in the Western Conference Central Division heading into Monday night’s game, boasting a record of 14-13-3 through their first 30 games in their second season in Salt Lake City.
