Mammoth’s Maveric Lamoureux out 4-6 months after shoulder surgery
Utah Mammoth defense prospect Maveric Lamoureux is slated to miss the next four to six months after undergoing shoulder surgery, the club announced Monday afternoon.
Lamoureux, 22, sustained a shoulder dislocation earlier in Utah’s 2026 training camp and underwent a procedure to address it on Monday, according to Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong.
A first-round pick (No. 29 overall) of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2022 NHL Draft, Lamoureux had been in the running for a full-time spot on Utah’s blue line in the 2026-27 regular season. Instead, he’ll likely be sidelined until sometime around the All-Star break.
Lamoureux is a towering right-shot defenseman who has split the past two seasons between Utah and the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners. The 6’6″, 196-pound rearguard skated in 65 games with Tucson in 2025-26, collecting five goals and 20 points; he added one assist in five NHL games with the Mammoth.
A standout throughout his junior career with the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, Lamoureux was the Coyotes’ third first-round draft selection in 2022, following Logan Cooley (No. 3 overall) and Conor Geekie (No. 11). The Laval, Que. product turned pro the same summer the Coyotes relocated to Utah, appearing in his first 15 NHL games with the then-nameless “Hockey Club” in 2024-25.
In 107 career AHL games over two seasons in Tucson, Lamoureux has collected seven goals, 33 points, and 123 penalty minutes; he’s also appeared in three playoff games with the Roadrunners, being held pointless. Lamoureux has skated in 20 NHL games to date with Utah, racking up four points (one goal, three assists) and 44 PIMs.
Utah announced its 2026-27 season-opening roster on Monday, with Lamoureux designated separately as being on injured reserve. With Lamoureux sidelined, Utah will be able to offer extra opportunities to the likes of Andrew Peeke, Nick DeSimone, and 2023 first-round pick Dmitri Simashev; additionally, the Mammoth have prospects Tomas Lavoie, Artem Duda, and Gregor Biber pushing to make the jump from Tucson to Salt Lake City. The Mammoth will kick off their 2026-27 season on Oct. 1 when they host the Chicago Blackhawks.
