An unfortunately familiar sight in Salt Lake City.

On Monday, the Utah Mammoth announced that defenseman Sean Durzi is expected to be out of action for the next four weeks due to an upper-body injury.

Durzi was hurt during the Mammoth’s game this past Saturday night against the Nasvhille Predators after taking a hit in overtime, falling on his right shoulder. According to reports, the 26-year-old dropped his stick and skated immediately to the bench in significant pain.

It was Durzi who helped Utah tie the game in the third period, picking up a secondary assist on Jack McBain’s first goal of the season. Utah went on to win the game, 3-2, in the extra frame.

The Mississauga, Ont. native played in each of the team’s first two games of the season, posting a plus/minus of zero while averaging 18:56 of ice time. If the timeline holds true, the earliest Mammoth fans should expect Durzi to be back in action would be on Nov. 12 against the Buffalo Sabres.

The extent of Durzi’s current ailment doesn’t seem to be as bad as the injury that he suffered last October. He went down with a shoulder injury that ended up requiring surgery. The former second-round pick missed 52 games before returning to the lineup last February. He was limited to just 30 games, the fewest number of appearances in his young NHL career. Durzi potted just four goals and seven assists for 11 points.

Durzi is still considered to be one of the more underrated young blueliners in the game, who just hasn’t quite found his mojo. In his first season with the Arizona Coyotes two years ago, he scored nine goals and 32 assists for 41 points, giving fans in Utah hope that he can be a key presence on the blue line for a team hoping to challenge for a playoff spot in the near future.

In 244 NHL contests, Durzi has scored 25 goals and 93 assists for 118 points, with four points coming in 13 postseason games with the Los Angeles Kings.

The Mammoth (1-1-0) is set to visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night.
