In a release, Armstrong stated how promising Borikov is and that the organization is excited to see what he can do in North America.
“We are very pleased to sign Yegor to his entry-level contract,” Armstrong said. “Yegor is a strong two-way winger with offensive upside who had a very productive year in the KHL. We look forward to continuing to watch his development.”
Borikov is set to move to North America after having completed his third season with Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. This past season, he set career highs in goals (16), assists (14) and points (30) in 59 games, helping Minsk finish second in the Western Conference. The team made it to the second round but was ultimately swept by the finalists, Ak Bars Kazan, in four games. Borikov potted two goals in seven appearances in the playoffs. He also scored eight points in four games of the Belarusian league’s playoffs with Metallurg Zhlobin, helping the team win the league championship for the second time in three years.
Borikov’s performance came after a strong run in his draft year, in which he scored 12 goals and 25 points during the regular season for Dinamo, with another eight points in 11 Gagarin Cup Playoff games.
In 167 career regular-season games in the KHL, the Luksky, Belarus native posted 33 goals and 30 assists for 63 points, with nine goals and 10 points in 18 postseason contests.
