Just days after the Utah Mammoth extended the contract of longtime head coach Andre Tourigny, the team has seemingly added another experienced coaching presence to his staff behind the bench.

According to a report from Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK, former Vancouver Canucks head coach Adam Foote has joined Tourigny’s staff after a one-year stint at the helm of the Canucks.

Foote’s coaching career began in earnest in the 2018-19 season, when he took over the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. Foote was fired in the middle of the 2019-20 campaign, and he did not return to the profession at a high level until catching on with the Canucks as an assistant in the middle of the 2022-23 season.

The former Colorado Avalanche defenseman and Stanley Cup champion became popular among players with the Canucks, which eventually led to him getting the role as head coach following Rick Tocchet’s departure after the 2024-25 season.

Vancouver’s roster, which was weak to begin with, was picked apart throughout the season as the Canucks sold players like superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes to further their goal of obtaining young assets and draft picks for their rebuild. In the end, Foote was let go after a 25-49-8 season that saw Vancouver finish with the worst record in the NHL.

In the second year of the franchise’s existence after re-locating from Arizona, the Mammoth made their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year, as they earned the top wild card spot in the Western Conference thanks to a 43-33-6 record.

Utah is a popular pick to ascend from wild card status to the contender tier of the next season, in large part thanks to a young, talented nucleus and a deep roster with minimal holes.

Tourigny is entering his sixth season as the head coach of the team, having taken over for the Coyotes ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
